Dated: 4-16, Delta Dental providing COVID-19 aid to health centers  Community health centers across Arizona, including the one in Ajo, are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide careforunderservedanduninsured populations. As a healthcare part- ner and the largest dental benefits provider in the state, Delta Dental of Arizona says it continually re- inforces the connection between oral health and overall health. To help support these patients in this unprecedented time, Delta Dental ofArizona, through its foundation, is donating a total of $500,000 to the 23 federally qualified health centers across the state.  Desert Senita Community Health Center is receiving $10,000. “Desert Senita Community Health Center is extremely grate- ful for this generous gift from Delta Dental of Arizona. The Foundation has supported the dental needs of the underserved in our community for several years, and we are thrilled to have their continued support during these challenging times. These funds will assist the health center greatly with its COVID-19 prevention, preparation, and response efforts,” said Jonathan Leonard, CEO of DSCHC.   Allan Allford, CEO of Delta Dental of Arizona and chair of the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, said, “Delta Dental of Arizona has a long history of supporting Arizona communities through its foundation, particular- ly the underserved and underin- sured. We see community health centers as a critical link to people in need and we have partnered with many dental clinics within the FQHC system. As healthcare partners, we can assist with unre- stricted funds to help alleviate the burden of the pandemic on these clinics.”   For the first time in the his- tory of Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, a gift of this mag- nitude was donated for medical purposes.  “In unprecedented times, we feel the need for un- precedented actions. It’s simply the right thing to do to help these organizations that are shoulder- ing a tremendous responsibility to help their patients,” Allford said.    John C. McDonald, CEO of Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers said, “Delta Dental of Arizona provided ev- ery health center with funds they desperately need right now in or- der to continue the fight against COVID-19. Health Centers are on the frontline of this pandemic. COVID 19 has challenged the wellbeing and health of our com- munities, but community health centers are committed to provid- ing high quality primary care to the communities they serve. We are extremely thankful for Delta Dental’s ongoing partnership and their contribution to health cen- ters’ obligation to deliver high quality primary care services.”   For information on Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, visit deltadentalaz.com/founda- tion. Some people chafe at being confined to their homes while oth- ers, introverts like me, revel in the opportunity to avoid social situa- tions. Of course, it’s not just my natural inclination toward isola- tion that helps me weather the Covid-19 storm of solitude. I’ve been practicing quarantining in Ajo for not just forty days or forty weeks but forty years. It was March 1980 when I ar- rived in town, to fill in temporar- ily while my parents looked for a replacement for Louise Murdock. I figured I’d stay for six weeks or so and then shake the desert dust off my high heels and head back to bright lights. It didn’t quite work out that way. The shoes no longer fit, which is good because I’d probably break an ankle trying to walk in them now, and they have been re- placed by a series of permanently dusty walking shoes. My pencil skirts gave way to jeans, which are now of the baggy mom-style vari- ety, and my hair is wash & wear practical instead of styled. Make- up? It’s in a drawer and rarely on my face. My meager possessions have grown to overflow a house and a garage, even if at least half my books are crammed in an iPad, and the population of companion creatures has expanded as well. What still fits though, after all these years, is the community. Tolerant of quirks, quick to help, and willing to let an old lady enjoy her hermitage. I think I’m good for another forty years.
