The Raiders were dumped by Buckeye 54-35, but came back and beat Sahuarita 56-45. In the Buckeye contest, the Raiders' slow start and poor shooting cost whatever chances they had against the taller Hawks, Raider coaches said. Buckeye came out shooting in the first quar- ter, scoring 14 points on seven quick field goals. The stunned Raiders managed only four points after the first stanza. In the second quarter, Buckeye slowed down and the Raiders started to move. AiD outscored Buckeye 9-8 in the second quarter, but still trailed 22-13 at the half. The third quarter saw the Raiders come out strong to score the first six points, narrowing the gap 22-19. Then Ajo got cold and couldn't make a basket, managing only 16 points the rest of the game. Buckeye won 54-35. In the Sahuarita game, the Mustangs were eager to avenge an earlier loss to the Raiders. After a 12-12 tied early m the second quar- ter, lhe Mustangs took a 24-21 lead into the locker room at the half. In the second half it was all Ajo, as the Raiders scored 21 points in the third quarter to take a 42- 29 lead into the final quar- ter. AiD managed to play even and walk away with a 56-45 win.
